From Parking Lot to Innovation Hub: Inside the Scranton Enterprise Center
The Scranton Enterprise Center (SEC) is located at 201 Lackawanna Avenue, and was the first business incubator to be added to the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce’s asset portfolio.
It was first opened for business in 2003, and it has been renovated multiple times over the years. Developed by the Scranton Lackawanna Industrial Business Company (SLIBCO), the Chamber’s business development division, the SEC has represented the entrepreneurial spirit in Lackawanna County for over two decades.
On a bit of downtown land once home to a parking lot, the SEC now stands as one of the premier locations to do business in the City of Scranton.
IGNITE’s Base of Operations
Only months into its existence, the SEC already had several incubator clients growing within its walls. The second floor of the SEC is the home of the Chamber’s IGNITE Program. However, even before the IGNITE brand was established, the second floor of the SEC was developed with start-up businesses in mind as its primary tenants.
Prior to the building of the TekRidge Enterprise Center (TEC) in Jessup, the SEC was the sole hub of the Chamber’s incubation activities. The success of the SEC and its incubation services paved the way for the future success of IGNITE in other communities across Lackawanna County.
In addition to the start-up IGNITE clients, the SEC is also home to several established anchor tenants on its first and third floors.
Class A Office Space
The SEC boasts state-of-the-art office space across its 64,415 square feet. Suites range in size from 80 to 10,500 sq ft.
Incubator offices are between 127 and 448 sq ft., though available space is dependent on the number of clients an incubator contains at a given time. For instance, the second floor SEC has four open suites as of August 2026.
Access to Community Partners (and Each Other)
In an incubator like the SEC, clients have unmatched access to business resources while paying an entrepreneur-friendly rental cost. Aside from the Chamber’s long list of contacts in a variety of sectors, IGNITE clients at the SEC have easy access to the IGNITE team, who are stationed in Suite 221 on the second floor.
In addition, Ben Franklin Technology Partners has a presence on the second floor of the SEC in Suite 219, and the building itself is located in a Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ), which provides tax credits to for-profit companies less than eight years old.
An incubator like the SEC is perfect for entrepreneurs who wish to collaborate with others on the start-up journey. Shared spaces — such as the second floor’s two conference rooms and the kitchen area — allow entrepreneurs to connect and learn from each other.
